Automatic Transmission Operation
There are several diffarenl positions ioi yout siiifl lever.
PARK {P): This position tgcJts your rear wheels. It'a
[he besl posilion to use when you start your engine
because your vehicte can't move easHy..
Д CAUTION:
tt is dangerous to gel out of your vehicle it the
shift lever Is not fully in PARK {P) with the
parking brake firmly set. Your vehicle can roll.
Don't leave your vehicle when the engine is
running unless you have to. И you have left the
engine running^ the vehicle can move
suddenly. You nr others could be injured. To
be sure your vehicle won't move, even whan
you're on fairly ievel ground, always set your
parking brake and move the shift lever to
PARK (P). See “Shifting Into Park (P)" in the
Index. If you're pul ting s trailer, see "Towing a
Trailer'' in the Index.
Ensure the shift Igver is fully in PARK {P) belore starling
the engine. Ycnjr vehtcle ha& an automatic transmission
shilt lock control system. Wilh the ignition in RUN.
you must lully apply your regular brakes boto™ you can
shitt from PARK (P).
It you canrtot shift out of PARK (Р]. aase pressure on
ihe shift lever and push the shift lever ell the way
into PARK (P) as you continue pressing the Ьгзка pedal
Then move the shift lever into Ihe gear you want. See

REVERSE (R): Use ihls gear to hack up
Notice: Shifting to REVERSE |RÌ iwhile your vehicle
is moving forward could damage your transmission.
Shitt to REVERSE (R) only after your vehicle is
slopped.
To rock your vehicte back and lorlh to get out of snow,

NEUTRAL (N): In this position, your engine doesn't
conned with the wheals. To restar! when you’re already
moving, use NEUTRAL {N) only. Also, use
NEUTRAL fN) when your vehicle ts being tawed.
